young teachers Mentoring program

The Collaborative Institute of Cultural Arts (CICA) believes in the future professional success of its members. In an effort to support youth dancers further in their future career goals, CICA has implemented a Mentorship Program where students will develop a set of skills that will prepare them for college and life after college, all of which are good attributes of great leaders. Through this Mentorship program, youth will aquire fundamental set of skills, including: organization, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, social and emotional intelligence, creativity, empathy, and time management, among other skills. In addition, mentees will improve their performing skills, such as confidence, self-direction/motivation, dedication, and enthusiasm, as they will constantly work with other youth, explaining and demonstrating footwork and execution in a studio setting.

Mentees applying for this program will commit to work with an official CICA instructor teaching a class twice per week for at least one semester (6 months) to one year. Mentees will begin their program by aiding the instructor with simple tasks, leading to more responsibilities as the semester progresses, ultimately being able to hold a class together and successfully acquiring class management and leadership skills.

Part of the responsibilities of a mentee include helping students prepare for performances and assisting their mentor during performances. This Mentorship Program is a partnership between qualifying thriving CICA members and CICA instructors. This partnership is based on commitment from both parties, common goals/expectations, and mutual trust and respect. The goal is to provide a rewarding experience for both partners.
